Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Technician to provide expert support to our maintenance team at our new Auckland Central Super Depot in Mt Roskill. This role is ideal for a trade-qualified maintenance engineer or an experienced technician with strong mechanical and electrical expertise.

As Lead Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimising our automated parcel sorting machinery, ensuring it operates reliably to meet our operational demands. You will take ownership of:

  • Planned, preventative, reactive and breakdown maintenance, ensuring all equipment is performing at peak efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and fault diagnosis, quickly resolving technical issues to minimise downtime.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring, acting as the senior point of contact for a team of technicians, offering guidance and hands-on support.
  • Enhancing system performance, working with high-level control systems, automation, and programming where applicable.

Mōu - About you

You are a trade-qualified or highly experienced maintenance engineer with a strong background in electrical and/or mechanical systems. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy problem-solving under pressure, and have a logical, solutions-focused mindset.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A relevant trade qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • New Zealand Electrical Registration or Electrical Service Technician (EST) Registration with A & B papers OR a mechanical engineering qualification.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an electrical/mechanical technician in an industrial, automation, or logistics setting.
  • Expertise in control systems and programming (highly desirable).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical faults efficiently.
  • Leadership potential or experience, with the ability to mentor and support a team.
  • A positive, adaptable attitude and a commitment to operational excellence are essential, as this role is crucial in ensuring the smooth running of our depot's machinery.

Haora Mahi - Hours / Roster

Although this is a role that reflects a standard 40 hour working week, our maintenance technicians operate variable day and night shift rosters. With this role being the reporting line for technicians, flexibility around times and days is required.
