Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Reporting to the Group Risk Manager, the Head of Risk leads NZ Post's enterprise-wide second line risk function. This role is responsible for maintaining an effective Line 2 function that establishes risk frameworks, provides independent oversight, challenge and insight, and supports informed decision-making across the Group.

Leading a team of four, you will play a key role in strengthening risk maturity, supporting a positive risk culture, and providing clear, actionable risk reporting to Senior Leaders and the Board Risk Committee.

This is a broad leadership role with accountability across enterprise risk, compliance and policy governance, working closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure risks are effectively understood, managed and escalated where appropriate.

As NZ Post continues to strengthen its risk maturity, this role will play a key part in building organisational capability and supporting leaders to develop robust risk profiles and risk management practices. While maintaining a second line perspective, you'll take a pragmatic and collaborative approach to helping the business embed effective risk management across the organisation.

You'll be involved in:

• Leading and developing a high-performing second line risk team.
• Maintaining and evolving NZ Post's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
• Providing independent oversight and assessment of Line 1 risk management practices and framework adoption.
• Delivering risk reporting and insights for executive leadership and the Board Risk Committee.
• Providing independent risk advice and input into major initiatives, investments and strategic decisions.
• Partner with leaders to strengthen risk maturity, helping teams identify, assess and articulate their risk profiles as capability continues to evolve.
• Leading NZ Post's policy governance framework and providing guidance to policy owners across the business.

 You'll be a collaborative and commercially minded risk leader who enjoys helping businesses make informed decisions while maintaining effective risk management practices. With experience operating in complex environments, you'll bring a strategic outlook, strong people leadership capability and the confidence to provide independent oversight and constructive challenge.

You'll bring:

• 5+ years' experience including leadership in 2nd line risk roles
• Experience operating at enterprise level within complex organisations
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams
• Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to balance risk management and business performance
• Proven experience in influencing, challenge and stakeholder engagement
• Strong knowledge of strategic, operational, financial and compliance risk
