Senior Learning Designer - 8 month fixed term role

Due to an internal secondment opportunity, we are looking for a Senior Learning Designer to join us on an 8 month, fixed-term contract until end of March 2026. 

• Are you looking for a short-term contract where your ability to work quickly and deliver quality is valued?

• Are you accustomed to working in large, complex organisations in Aotearoa/NZ, with significant numbers of frontline workers?
• Based in either Highbrook, Auckland; Wellington CBD or Yaldhurst, Christchurch with WFH flex

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

At NZ Post we're dreaming big and transforming our business to help us achieve our aspiration to be the best delivery business for Aotearoa/NZ. 

Reporting into the Head of Learning and Development, and working alongside the Strategic Capability Partner you will pick up and continue:

• Leading learning design for major transformation initiatives, including automation
• Continuing work on embedding our redesigned partner operating model
• Supporting learning needs tied to changes in the mail delivery business
• Designing and delivering learning for the Auckland Network optimisation project

It's work that's underway, and it's big and hearty.  It requires a keen eye and an innate ability to look across workstreams and identify gaps and L&D work that is required or emerging, then putting highly competent hands around that. 

Your focus on partnering with the business and ability to communicate in plain English will mean you'll always be clear about what success looks like for the stakeholder and keeping your eye on that.  They'll know the value they get from working with you and want to continue doing so.

You'll be a self-starter, and your own curiosity and experience will mean your kete of techniques and tools will be jam-packed with ideas and skills for creating great learning experiences and supporting learning while working.

You're an experienced learning designer who thrives in large, fast-moving organisations where priorities shift, and no two days are quite the same. You know how to get to the heart of what's needed, bring structure to complexity, and create learning solutions that actually work — for people and for the business.

In this role, you'll be part of a collaborative, future-focused team designing learning that supports some of our most important transformation work. To be successful, you'll bring:

• A strong track record in instructional design, with the ability to create engaging, practical learning solutions — from digital to face-to-face, formal to informal
• Confidence in working at pace, using your initiative and resilience to meet deadlines while juggling multiple priorities
• Exceptional relationship and stakeholder management skills, with a focus on listening, translating needs into action, and keeping everyone on the same page
• Expertise in adult learning principles, including how to integrate social, informal, and on-the-job learning into the wider ecosystem
• A strategic mindset, able to design scalable, future-ready learning that supports change and aligns with business direction
